Wireless Multiplexing

Wireless Multiplexing Patent with pending application addressing the M2M market available for purchase

According to the Deloitte’s Telecommunications Predictions TMT Trends 2008 the major market for the $10 mobile phone may be machines rather than people. Deloitte’s prediction goes on to state that integrating mobile connectivity into machines could take the total addressable market for mobile subscriptions to tens of billions. A mobile module could be profitably integrated into a wide range of machines from vending machines to bank ATM’s. It is estimated that in Europe and the US alone there are 1.1 billion generic machines such as computers, photocopiers, burglar alarms and point-of-sale devices that could be connected. While the cost of cell phone hardware may be decreasing the monthly per phone subscriber fee creates a challenge for the wide scale deployment of machine to machine communications.

Our client has an important early filed US patent with a valuable continuation patent application and a pending Canadian patent application for sale that addresses this emerging market. The patent addresses the concept of multiplexing multiple cell phones onto a single mobile number to make it feasible for this technology to be used to address the machine to machine communications market.

The independent claim of the patent reads as follows:

A method for multiplexing a plurality of wireless devices with a wireless network, each of said wireless devices sharing a common telephone number, said method comprising the steps of: (a) assigning a predefined access time for each of said wireless devices; (b) assigning a predefined length of time during which each of said wireless devices will have access to said wireless network; (c) initiating a sequence of accesses to said wireless network in accordance with said predefined access time and said predefined length of time such that a maximum of one of said wireless devices accesses said wireless network at a time.

For potential buyers that are developing products and services in this emerging field the existing continuation application provides an opportunity to obtain a range of claims that could prove to be immensely valuable. For interested buyers the prosecuting patent agent is available to discuss the claims and the continuation. The inventor is also available to consult to the buyer if it is required.

The Opportunity: the successful buyer of these patents will garner the following benefits:

  • Provide a greater barrier to entry into your business sector
  • Generate incremental revenue and profits through licensing to 3rd parties participating in this market
  • Enhancing their current patent portfolio for defensive cross-licensing purposes
  • Kick-start product development in this market with knowledge that you have patent protection and a continuation to further protect your development efforts.
