EBL – Event-Driven, No-Code aPaaS Provider

A software company, code named EBL, is now evaluating strategic alternatives for their business.

The Company:

EBL has developed a patented Event-Driven, No-Code Application Platform-as-a-Service (aPaaS) that enables rapid development and deployment of plug-and-play systems for natively digital businesses and IoT devices.  The platform can support any data-centric app from a device on/off switch to an e-commerce website (developed as an app) to task-driven mobile workforce management and mission-critical supply chain management.

EBL’s “Connect & Control” UI framework is a universal controller for a digital life, providing a continuum of contextual, on-demand apps for home, shopping, travel, and workplace conveniences.

The Problem:

In the emerging digital world, billions of people, systems, and devices will interact and react in real-time, requiring new and disruptive approaches to distributed data/state management, interoperability, and rule-based event processing. A key challenge to digital transformation is the ability to enable end-to-end interoperability across different industries, each having its own environments and interdependent use cases.

Despite proliferation of numerous point solutions and platforms for commerce, Internet of Things (IoT), and digital transformation, it remains difficult to deliver a unified, cross-industry solution that meets the demand for timely, accurate transaction and information exchange. Meanwhile, consumers continue to expect more from their connected devices, from smart phone to coffee maker.

As examples:

  • Smart City architecture must mirror the system of interconnected physical and human systems to solve systemic and complex urban problems.  Existing open standards and cloud-based platforms are not adequately abstracted to support the semantic heterogeneity of events in the large and open implementations of a city.
  • Supply Chains are challenged with multi-party data sharing to meet changing customer demands and industry compliance such as product traceability.
  • Traditional legacy and packaged Workforce Management Systems (warehouse, delivery, sales, and service management) are prone to vendor lock-in and not as extensible as necessary for IoT and natively digital transformations.
  • Existing Mobile, Commerce, and Low-Code Application Platforms are not foundationally based on event-drive architecture for distributed/edge computing or shared semantics for interoperability. The need for any coding constrains interoperability.
  • Internet-Connected Appliances currently use proprietary technologies (e.g., disparate control apps) to provide access and communication functions, adding to the lack of interoperability and integration
The Solution:

EBL’s aPaaS is an all-in-one extension of web domain registration and hosting services. Businesses can create a digital identity (web domain), establish trade relationships with other parties (B2B, B2C), create trade items (including IoT devices and data subscriptions), define a website, automate processes, control smart devices, and conduct business transactions all on a single unified platform.

The aPaaS eliminates siloed apps and legacy accounting systems, redundant data entry, middleware and system integrators. It scales digital transformations down to the smallest of businesses and devices. SaaS solutions supported by the aPaaS include:

  • Smart City services
  • E-Commerce
  • Mobile Line of Business/Workforce Management
  • Remote Device Management
  • Supply Chain Automation
  • Home and Building Automation

Current customers are primarily small to mid-sized retailers and distributors that selected our platform-based apps to empower their entire mobile workforce, increase productivity, and streamline order fulfillment.

Significant Technology Advantage:

The aPaaS is powered by a patented, model-based runtime system for edge-to-cloud distributed in-memory computing.  The runtime is embeddable in any type of machine from home appliances to cloud servers and can be integrated with a modular operating system (e.g. ARM mbed).

The aPaaS implements an open ontology-based event-driven architecture for highly distributed, interoperable information systems.  This open architecture breaks down data silos, eliminates complex system integrations, and unifies information spaces – in a way that is simple, scalable, and sustainable.

EBL’s platform can:

  • dynamically render portable apps on multiple form factors from smart watch to PC
  • create relationships between parties using request/accept mechanism
  • remotely automate, control, and monitor connected devices
  • automate an entire workflow through codeless triggers and actions (e.g. A state change of a coffee machine can trigger a new sales order or task)
  • securely control data access permissions for any role (e.g., customer, device controller)
  • provide stateful event stream processing for digital twins
Exploding IoT-Centric, Low-Code Application Platform Opportunity:
  • Low-Code Application Platform global market forecasted to grow from $4b in 2017 to $27b by 2022, nearly 45% CAGR (Forrester 2018)
  • Global Edge Computing market size was valued at $1.5b in 2018 expected to expand at a CAGR of 54% from 2019 to 2025 (Grand View Research 2019)
  • 40% of Internet of Things’ $11 trillion value potential requires interoperability (McKinsey 2015)

By 2020, more than 50 percent of all new applications developed on PaaS (Platform as a Service) will be IoT-centric, disrupting conventional architecture practices. IoT adoption will drive additional use of PaaS to implement IoT-centric business applications built around event-driven architecture and IoT data, instead of business applications built around traditional master data. These IoT-centric business applications will drive a transformation in application design practices that focus on real-time contextually rich decisions, event-analysis, lightweight workflow, and broad access to Web-scale data. (Gartner Research, March 2016)

EBL Value Proposition:

• Highly scalable for rapid market adoption, including small businesses
• Value-add service revenue beyond commoditized domain registration and web hosting
• Reduced time, cost, and risk to enter the rapidly growing IoT, Edge Computing and No-Code Application Platform sectors.
• Significant competitive differentiator of a larger corporate partner.
• Comprehensive patent protection

EBL is seeking a large partner who has the sales and marketing infrastructure to capitalize on the expansive opportunity to exploit this highly disruptive, no-code aPaaS.
